Ready for a big announcement? Kriket is officially teaming up with Colruyt Group! They are big cricket fans, they love healthy food, and they are totally ready to help us bringing insects to a mainstream audience. Why? Crickets are tasty, in many ways more nutritious than meat and fish, and have a footprint similar to vegetable proteins.
Today we are celebrating a new milestone in Kriket history. Our mission is to make our food system more sustainable, and with the support of our brand new partner – Colruyt Group – we’re joining forces with a true pioneer in sustainability. Together, we want to create smart cricket-based products, and bring the protein source of the future to a broad audience of curious consumers.
Kriket was born in our kitchen with a very clear destination in mind. Design delicious products with organic ingredients. Create a beautiful brand. And put a smile on people’s face. We developed 2 new Kriket flavours, our team expanded from 1 to 3 cricket believers and we have sold our first bars outside of Belgium. Now it’s time to take Kriket to the next level.
Why would a big powerhouse such as Colruyt Group join the cricket revolution? Crickets convert feed 10 times more efficient than livestock, emit 60 times less greenhouse gases and require 2.000 times less water to produce the same amount of protein. And they are extremely healthy. The cricket flour we’re using in our bars contains twice as much protein than beef, has more iron than spinach, more calcium than milk and as many Omega-3 fatty acids as salmon.
And what about the psychological barrier? Ever since our first steps back in 2017 when we launched our crowdfunding, we noticed most consumers are actually totally fine with eating insects. Almost 3 years later, we are selling our bars in Aveve, AS.Adventure and Bio-Planet, and our belief that crickets will become the new normal is stronger than ever. This is just the beginning…
